An intimate wedding in Spain

Some weddings feel like a film scene.

This was one of them.

An intimate wedding in sunny Calpe, a couple who found their way back to each other after years apart, a breathtaking first look in the iconic Muralla Roja and a dance floor that was (quite literally) taken over by the bride’s son.

Couple embracing during first look in Calpe, Spain

First look at Muralla Roja — a magical beginning

We started the day with a moment I’ll always be a fan of: the first look. And what a setting.
In the maze-like corridors of Muralla Roja, the groom saw his bride for the very first time. That moment, the mix of anticipation, love and quiet amazement, never gets old.

With the soft pastel-pink walls as a backdrop and the sunlight falling just right, it couldn’t have been more perfect. Of course, the Ifach, Calpe’s most iconic rock, had to be part of the scene. We took some time to wander around for couple portraits too, because this location truly begs to be explored.

An intimate wedding in a Spanish hacienda

After the shoot, the celebration moved to Casa del Maco, a beautiful Spanish hacienda filled with warm, characterful details. The atmosphere was relaxed and elegant at the same time. A small group of family and friends, bright sunshine, and a setting where everyone knew each other.

That closeness gave the ceremony something extra. No formality, no distance. Just a day full of sincerity and connection.

Love, with a second chance

The couple’s story was just as special as the setting. They were high school sweethearts, lost touch, lived their own lives, had relationships, children… and then found each other again years later. Today, they form a beautifully blended family.

If that isn’t fate, I don’t know what is. The ceremony was intimate and heartfelt, filled with beautiful speeches and quiet emotion.

After the ceremony, it was time for the reception; full-on enjoyment of the sun and Spanish specialties. The dinner table was beautifully styled too, set in an idyllic outdoor scene that invited everyone to linger just a little longer.

Things went a little wild when the bride received a very special gift: an album filled with a few cheeky photos from her bachelorette days.
What happens in Calpe, doesn’t stay in Calpe.

Golden hour, blue hour and an iconic rock

Everyone gathered around a beautifully set table, sharing authentic Spanish dishes and lingering a little longer than planned.
Good food, heartfelt speeches and easy conversation filled the evening, making it feel warm, relaxed and genuinely joyful.

As a photographer, you’re always chasing good light, and Spain delivered. The day was warm and sunny, but towards the evening it turned magical. Golden hour flowed seamlessly into blue hour, and with a glowing sunset and Calpe’s iconic rock in the background, I pulled the couple aside one last time for a final series of portraits.

Dreamy light, soft colours in the sky… Everything fell into place.

And then the dance floor came alive…

As the evening settled in, the air softened and the atmosphere grew warmer.
Laughter carried across the dance floor, music played on, and somewhere in between, a spontaneous limbo brought everyone together.

Same wedding, but next time with a holiday attached

Would I do this again? Absolutely.
But there’s one thing I’d change: I’d stay an extra day.

This time, I photographed the wedding and left again the next morning. A shame, because Calpe and its surroundings turned out to be well worth exploring. So, future couples planning a destination wedding: I’d love to capture your day. And next time, I might just add a mini holiday of my own.
