A wedding in your own garden

colourful sunset during a backyard wedding

Getting married in a place that already feels like home: for J & A, it became reality.

After their ceremony in the local church, this effortlessly elegant couple moved to the garden - or perhaps estate is the better word - of J’s parents. Guests were guided past the grapevines, all the way to the heart of the celebration: a large white tent filled with warmth, charm, and smiling faces. The atmosphere only grew richer when the local brass band made a surprise appearance, instantly turning the afternoon into something unforgettable.

A garden wedding has a very different rhythm to it. It feels slower. More personal. Less staged. There’s no unfamiliar venue to adjust to, just a place filled with memories, now holding a few new ones.

And just like happiness, food is better when it’s shared. Dinner was served to share, prepared on the Green Egg, with an open bar that invited guests to linger just a little longer. Conversations flowed easily, laughter carried across the lawn, and no one seemed in a hurry to be anywhere else.

Until golden hour arrived.

I gently pulled J & A away from the festivities for a short walk, just as the light softened. No stress, no tight schedule; one of the quiet advantages of getting married at home. And if their brief absence raised any eyebrows, they more than made up for it later with an intimate first dance that felt entirely their own.

Why a garden wedding works

Getting married in your own garden, or that of your family, can be very comforting.

It allows you to:

  • celebrate in a place that already feels familiar

  • create a day that flows naturally, without rigid timing

  • make choices that feel true to you, not dictated by a venue

A backyard wedding doesn’t need to be small or simple, it just needs to feel right. Whether it’s a tent filled with lights, long tables under the trees, or music drifting through the open air, it’s about atmosphere over formality.

And above all: about love, shared freely.

Because when a wedding feels this relaxed, this personal, you can see it in every moment.

Just as it should be. 🤍
